Chrometype AR Snapchat Filter Design:
The Chrometype AR Filter for Snapchat explores the intersection of digital art and augmented reality through a golden, fluid 3D face filter inspired by the Chrometype design trend. Created using Blender, Lens Studio, and Meta’s Spark AR, the piece reimagines metallic textures and organic motion in an immersive, wearable form that feels both futuristic and timeless.
Beginning with hand-drawn sketches using Blender’s Grease Pencil tool, I transformed fluid shapes into vectorized Bezier curves to refine every swirl and contour. The signature gold material was then crafted to emulate the reflective sophistication of Chrometype design. Finally, the mask was integrated into an interactive Snapchat and Instagram filter, allowing users to experience the artwork in motion. The result is an exploration of how digital sculpture can transcend the screen and become part of personal expression.
The Making Of
CLIENT - Self-Initiated Project
This project explores the intersection of digital art and augmented reality through a self-driven experiment in immersive design. Created as part of my ongoing exploration of AR and interactive 3D, the Chrometype AR Snapchat Filter transforms the futuristic metallic aesthetic of Chrometype into a wearable, living artwork. The project reflects my fascination with how technology can extend creativity beyond the screen, turning digital sculptures into experiences people can wear, move with, and connect to.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The process began with extensive visual exploration of the Chrometype trend, characterized by fluid metallic forms, reflections, and organic movement. I wanted to translate that visual richness into an AR experience that felt both elegant and futuristic. I started sketching the design in Blender using the Grease Pencil tool, then refined the form with Bezier curves to achieve smooth, flowing contours. The material was carefully crafted to evoke the richness of gold, balancing realism and stylization.
The final stage was focused on interaction and technical integration. Using Lens Studio (for Snapchat) and Meta Spark (for Instagram filters, which has now been discontinued by Meta), I developed the filter into a functional AR experience that users could try directly on Snapchat and Instagram. This project was an opportunity to merge art and technology in a tangible, wearable way, allowing users to engage with my design through motion, light, and perspective.
ROLE - Concept, 3D Design, and AR Development
I conceptualized, modeled, and developed the entire AR filter, from initial sketches to the interactive final version. My role combined artistic experimentation with technical precision, ensuring the design functioned seamlessly across platforms while maintaining visual fidelity. The project deepened my understanding of AR frameworks, PBR materials, and optimization for real-time rendering. As a self-initiated piece, it was a creative playground that expanded both my artistic vocabulary and technical skill set.

From Sketch to Snapchat

I’ve always been fascinated by the Chrometype trend, its fluid metallic forms and intricate details are mesmerizing! So, I decided to bring this aesthetic into augmented reality with a golden mask filter that feels futuristic, timeless, and very Björk! ❤️ This creation is my take on blending art and technology into something immersive and wearable.
The process was a blend of creativity and technical exploration. I started in Blender, sketching the swirling, organic shapes with the Grease Pencil tool. Once the design began to take form, I converted these sketches into vectorized line work using Bezier curves, giving me the flexibility to refine every curve and detail. Afterward, I worked on the material, crafting that luxurious gold finish that reflects the elegance of Chrometype. Watching it come alive in Blender felt like magic!
The final step? Transforming this into a functional AR experience. Using Lens Studio and Meta’s AR Spark, I turned the design into an interactive filter you can try out yourself! Now you can wear this shimmering creation and experience its flow and complexity firsthand. Curious to see how it looks? The link to the Snapchat filter is in the comments; give it a spin, and don’t forget to tag me in your creations! Seeing how others interact with these digital artworks is the best part. You too may try the filter out via Snapchat HERE. 🌀 :))
