WEDDING INVITE DESIGN | Pri & K

This five-month collaboration with Priyasha and Kshitij was a heartfelt artistic journey that brought together the beauty of Odia and Punjabi traditions. Through multiple iterations, detailed discussions, and creative exploration, the bespoke wedding invite became a true reflection of their personalities and shared story. The design also celebrates the serendipity of the number seven, a symbol deeply woven into their lives and love, from their birthdays and engagement date to the seven colors of the rainbow. Featuring seven leaves as a tribute to this significance, the final artwork captures the harmony of two cultures, two hearts, and one timeless love story. 🌈✨

The Making Of

CLIENT - Priyasha and Kshitij
I was commissioned to design a bespoke wedding invitation that beautifully merged Odia and Punjabi cultures. This project became a creative journey that unfolded over five months, filled with collaboration, revisions, and thoughtful storytelling. Every design decision was made to reflect their personalities, values, and shared narrative.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The design process brought together two distinct cultural worlds through a harmonious blend of color, motif, and symbolism. From the warm earthy tones of Odisha to the vibrant spirit of Punjab, every brushstroke was crafted to honor both traditions. A recurring motif of seven leaves became the soul of the design, representing their birthdays, engagement date, and the seven colors of the rainbow that reflect the depth and diversity of their love.

ROLE - Illustrator, Designer, and Conceptual Artist
I conceptualized and illustrated the entire invitation, from the first sketch to the final composition. My focus was on creating a visual story that felt intimate and timeless. Every detail, from patterning and typography to color balance, was carefully curated to mirror the couple’s bond. The result is a one-of-a-kind digital and physical wedding invite that celebrates love, culture, and serendipity in its purest form.

1. Concept and Cultural Research

The journey began with exploring the visual and emotional essence of both Odia and Punjabi cultures. I studied traditional patterns, textile motifs, and regional color palettes to find common ground between warmth and vibrance. Of course, Odisha is also my home state, so finding Odia wedding references was an extremely fun and fulfilling part for me personally. Through conversations with Priyasha and Kshitij, I identified symbols and stories that represented their union. This phase shaped the foundation for a design language rooted in authenticity, heritage, and love.

I began the process by sharing an initial line drawing, exploring different poses and compositions to capture the right emotion. Once I had a direction, I sent the draft to Priyasha for her thoughts and feedback. After her approval, I moved on to coloring the hero illustration first, followed by the internal motifs. My initial vision for the hero image was more subtle and minimal, but Priyasha envisioned something grander, Bollywood-inspired and rich in detail. We leaned into that “more is more” aesthetic, and the result was something both vibrant and deeply personal, which they absolutely loved.

2. Design Development and Iteration

Over five months, the concept evolved through countless sketches, revisions, and digital explorations. Each iteration refined the narrative, from the fluid composition of motifs to the integration of color and typography. The design of the inner leaves of the invite gradually took form as a seamless fusion of cultures, balancing minimalism with intricate detailing. Every brushstroke and color choice was guided by the couple’s story, ensuring that the invite not only looked exquisite but felt deeply personal.

The visual journey unfolded across seven distinct artworks, each representing one of the key wedding events, Reception, Sangeet, Shaadi, Haldi, and Mehendi, alongside the central hero image. Every piece was thoughtfully conceptualized to capture the couple’s story through cultural nuance and symbolism.

Each artwork carried elements deeply rooted in Odia and Punjabi traditions, marigolds, an auspicious symbol in Odia weddings; the tahiya from Odissi adorning the bride’s hair; the mukut of Odisha placed on the groom; kaleeras representing Punjabi grace; and paan leaves woven subtly throughout as a nod to Odia rituals. The Sangeet illustration danced to the rhythm of music and movement, while Haldi radiated joy with splashes of yellow, marigold garlands, and the sacred kalash. Together, these details built a visual symphony of love, culture, and celebration that truly reflected Priyasha and Kshitij’s union.

3. Symbolism and Final Execution

A particularly meaningful element was the design of the first leaf, inspired by A Walk to Remember. This note held deep emotional significance for the couple, symbolizing the values they built their relationship on, patience, kindness, and enduring love. We chose to design it toward the end of the process, ensuring it felt truly personal and heartfelt. It was placed as the very first page of the physical invite, greeting guests with this sentiment as soon as they opened it, setting the tone for the celebration that followed.

A defining element of the invite was the number seven, a symbol of serendipity and unity in their journey. From their shared birth date (of 7th of Jan) and engagement day to the seven colors of the rainbow, this motif became the heartbeat of the composition.

The final artwork, adorned with seven leaves, captured the essence of their love through form, balance, and color harmony. It was printed with precision to preserve every painterly detail, resulting in a piece that celebrated both craft and emotion.
